Thought it would be good to have a thread with our favourite and frequented property investing sites.

    Some of mine are:
http://www.investsmart.com.au/property – good for Capital growth figures, suburb demographics and make up
http://www.htw.com.au/downloads.aspx – monthly report on the state of the market for residential and commercial
http://www.suburbview.com/ a holistic view of all the real estate for sale websites
    http://www.homepriceguide.com.au/ similar to investsmart
http://www.refindhouseprices.com/ How many days advertised and listing price history so if they’ve reduced the price since listing, that kind of thing.
http://house.ksou.cn/ Has sold prices and when
http://www.propertykeyword.com/ if you’re looking for a specific property type like ‘block of units’ or ‘renovators delight’ etc
    http://www.sqmresearch.com.au/terms_vacancy.php rental vacancy rates
http://www.myrp.com.au/n/free-suburb-profile/myrp-545#LandingReport have a suburb profile report sent to you
    http://www.abs.gov.au/ Data on demographics
+ each council / state website that has planned infrastructure and developments

Please add your own as I'm sure there's a lot I'm missing!

For NSW I'd add http://maps.six.nsw.gov.au/ - usually better resolution than google earth and shows block boundaries & house numbers.

http://petewargent.blogspot.com.au/ - Best place for data-oriented property market analysis and commentary IMO. Pete is a very smart guy.

Also, if you have any loan with CBA, you can sign up to mywealth.com.au and add a property to get a glimpse of what their desktop valuation system thinks your property is worth.

    Very handy in some cases...

Thanks for starting this thread, Kinnon. Very helpful for newbies like me :D

Is it possible to estimate market value by using these freebie sites, or is it necessary to subscribe to Pricefinder etc?

Folks, is there a site for WA featuring block sizes etc?

How'd I forget this one? Absolutely awesome site. I believe they're still filling in data for more and more areas but what is available is incredibly useful.

Another one that slipped my mind.

https://www.planningalerts.org.au/ - Sign up for Development Application alerts within a 4km radius of a certain area. Excellent resource to monitor an area you're interested in.

Whether you're looking for signs of gentrification (small bars and coffee shops on the way months before they open), renovation/extension activity, subdivisions and entire developments this is a great tool to watch and can be an early indicator of a market starting to come to life.

    How about Somersoft?
Even when closed, will still be a great reference.

Price Finder and many other places will tell you but if the local council has Intramaps it gives you a wealth of information about sites - from zoning, boundaries, sewer, contours, aerial photos to many more depending on how many layers they have. They also have measuring tools so you can try and measure the distance at the side of a house if you want to get a quick and dirty look if there is 4m for a side driveway etc

The list of Councils which have implemented Intramaps are listed here http://mapsolutions.com.au/intramaps/intramaps-public.aspx
