    Fathered a child overseas?

Some Australian men while traveling overseas impregnate the local women and then do a runner - either intentionally or unintentionally.

A parent can be required to pay child support where that parent is in Australia and the child and its other parent are overseas.

Australia has reciprocal agreements with a large number of countries.

In any event, the child would also be entitled to your estate in full or in part should you die with a will or without a will. Evidence may be an issue though, but these days DNA tests are becoming cheaper and more common.

Legal Tip - wear a condom!

I know of one instance where as the deceased died intestate but was born overseas, huge expense was made searching in his country of birth and all other countries visited to find any offspring.

    Legitimate adult children weren't impressed.

And consorting with locals can end in all sorts of horrid outcomes incl allegations about rape, abuse etc. Tourists arent always afforded fair outcomes.

Australian laws can even charge some on their return

How would they prove the child was concieved legally, and not by stealing a used condom and using the contents to impregnate themselves after the fact?

Surely the laws don't autonatically grant share of your assets to someone based on DNA?

I mean sure, but there could be a number of scenarios where a child is conceived not just without the knowledge, but against direct wishes of someone.

I note Thailand isn't on the List & I wonder why Does anyone remember Baby Gammy, who was conceived & abandoned by a convicted pedo in Thailand? Gammy suffered from Downs Syndrome and relied on donations from well wishers. Couldn't have been easy for her Mum. Pedo appeared on 60 Minutes, looking very contrite, but defending his actions. I presume he was paid for the interview, as is the case with most 60 minutes stories.

If I am recalling the same case the baby was twin and the Thai woman involved was a surrogate. The ‘parents’ then only wanted the other twin once the babies were born.
    Just so sad :(
